About the seed library project

Altadena Seed Library is a growing constellation of seed education and conservation resources.
Our mission is to expand equitable access to shade and green spaces, increase food sovereignty, foster community connection, and rekindle relationships with our nonhuman neighbors.

Seed libraries…

  • Help connect people to their places

  • Store and distribute native seeds that grow to support local wildlife and pollinators

  • Empower communities to cool their microclimates, grow their own green spaces, combat shade inequity, and improve air quality

  • Support food sovereignty and helping to solve food insecurity issues across L.A. when used at urban farms or community gardens

  • Act as community hubs, helping neighbors to connect to one another

  • Cultivate a new generation of seed stewards by engaging students at school gardens
